There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is against the law. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect area, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, highlights 150 slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel building that features a number of amenities on top of the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
