There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are allegedly required to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, highlights 150 slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel building that features numerous luxuries on top of the gambling den, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight table games.
